Counties National Club Grades 21 March 2010 - Norwich Gymnastics Club

On Sunday 21st March 8 North Walsham girls competed at Norwich Gymnastics Club for the Counties National Club Grades. The pass mark for Grade 12 was 35.00. With such a long break from training the gymnasts had to work extra hard to pass against a very stong opposition. Paige Yarham came 4th place overall in her age group scoring 1st place on vault (becoming a tradition). Delilah Mitchell and Faith Jones also in this age group competed well with Faith just missing the mark by 0.15. In the 12+ age group Jossie Maskrey came 2nd on beam and 3rd on bars and Nicole Powley 3rd on both beam and floor. Abigail Gower, also in this age group, made uncharacteristic mistakes on beam but held a high vault score.

In grade 14 the pass mark was 50.00 and both the girls passed with distinction. Ursula Langley posted consistant scores with only a missed split on range. Lauren Edens also competed well gaining 3rd place on bars.

Training at Easton

On the 18th March North Walsham Gymnasts Paige Yarham, Delilah Mitchell, Faith Jones, Nicole Powley, Abigail Gower, Jossie Maskrey, Lauren Edens and Ursula Langley had an extra training session at Easton Gymnastics Club. The girls got to practice their routines on similar equipment as at the competition on Sunday 21st March.

Well done to all the girls who conducted themselves excellently and whatever the outcome on Sunday we are proud to call them our gymnasts. Thanks to Bradley and Penny for the last minute use of the gym.

News from Down Under

There are some photo's of Jemma Shields from her first external Australian competition in early May 2009, she came 2nd on Floor with 14.6 and 6th overall with a score of 55.2. She had a regional competition on Sat and she came 4th overall, 2nd on Beam with 14.6, 3rd on Floor with 14.1 and 56.2 overall. They don’t assess R&C over here, no idea why. The gym are very happy, she passed her mandatory Level 3 (they go from Level 1 up to Level 10) grade last weekend and even scored 14.3 on vault, which means she can now focus on Level 4 which she’s desperate to do.

She’s in the competition group now and training 12 hrs per week. We got to watch the top girls at the gym perform last weekend, they were amazing

The photo's come courtesy of Adrenalin Photographics and National Sports Photography, both in Australia.

Recreational Apparatus Final

A great day of competition was held at Norwich Gymnastics club on 25th October 2009. There were 6 clubs competiting at only one level and three age groups. North Walsham gymnasts looked very well turned out in their matching team leotards. The girls all looking really polished and stood out from the rest.

In the 8-10 age group Delilah Mitchell came away with the bronze for very neat Bars. In the 11- 12 age group Sophie Crook won Gold on bars for the second year running. All the girls competed in Level 5 with 42 gymnasts in all fighting for medals at this Level. In the 9/10 age group there were 22 gymnasts with North Walsham holding 8 of those places.

Paige Yarham came in 4th place with the highest mark on vaultbeating the other 41 competitors. Natalie Wright came 9th and she came 2nd on vault even though she started with 0.5 lower tariff. Ellen Smith was 13th, achieving 2nd place on bars. Emma Pestell came 14th with 3rd place on beam. Delilah Mitchell, Faith Jones, Georgia Pegg and Abigail Bunn also had a great competition. Georgia Peggs hands very sore and bleeding from the last couple of weeks determination of fulfilling a full bar routine and Abigail Bunn also achieved this with a week to go. Faith Jones did remarkably well with a dislocated/broken finger.

In the 11+ age group we had 3 of 9 competitors. Abigail Gower took 4th place achieving 2nd place on both floor and vault. Nicole Powley in 5th and Jossie Maskrey in 6th. Could you be a judge?

Your help is needed to become a judge for the club. Interested? Please see the Courses section for more info.

£8,452 Awards 4 All Grant & £3,500 raised by you.

In May 2009 we were awarded £8,452 for new equipment for the gymnasts at our club. With this money we were able to buy an Airtrack (£1000 of which was donated by North Walsham Sport Centre), Vaulting Table with trolleys and dust cover, Competition Bars and mats, Coaching block and Competition Beam.

By the time our grant came through prices had risen, so £3,500 of money which gymnasts and various friends of the sport centre and gymnastics club had raised during quiz/bingo nights and gymnasts fees, went towards the short fall as well as some beautiful mats to surround our new beam. Thankyou to everyone who has either donated their time or money to the club.

120 Still Waiting

We are half way through the summer holidays and the coaches have put on extra training for those on the waiting list as well as those already members of the club. Unfortunately the wait is now as long as 2 years and we regret that unless we find some premises, or more time in the gym places wont be available until others leave. On a good note, we will be having 3 new coaches going through their qualifications in September/October so watch out for the new faces.

Goodbye, Farewell.

Ellen Ledger and Roxanne Demmen will be leaving ol Norfolk and heading off to University in October. We would like to wish them all the best for the future and thank them for all the hard work and time they have put into the club. They have both promised to come and coach during any holidays they have free, so we will be holding them to that.

Summer school dates

Dates for summer schools have been published in the Calendar. Please book your required weeks with Alexis.

Four Gymnasts shall be chosen in the middle of August to be in the Norfolk Development Squad.

Recreational Competition date change

The date of the competition in October has been moved to the 25th instead of the 11th.

Dick Prior Display Evening.

Well done to all the competition girls who performed beautifully at the Dick Prior Memorial Display Evening. Norwich gymnastics club once again held their annual display at the fantastic facility which now boasts a brand new £20,000 sprung floor area funded by Town Close. It is the best floor in the East and North Walsham Gymnastics Club were invited to perform. The 14 girls who only had 1 1/2 hours to choreograph the routine made no mistakes and showed the crowd that the hard work and determination in training is really paying off.
